The physical process for obtaining the images of your teeth using Digital X-rays is similar to traditional film-based dental X-rays. With digital radiography, the dental hygienist or dentist inserts a digital sensor into your mouth to capture images of your teeth instead of a hard piece of camera type film, but that's where the similarity between conventional and Digital X-rays end !  The digital sensor is electronic and connected to a computer. Once the X-ray is taken, the image is instantly projected onto the computer monitor making it quick and easy for the dentist & hygienist to view. There are several benefits to using Digital Radiography over the old traditional film-based X-rays :

Less Radiation -- The equipment used in digital radiography exposes dental patients to much less radiation than the old method of film-based radiography. In fact, digital X-rays use up to 90 % less radiation than film X-rays. While conventional dental X-rays are relatively safe, Digital X-rays are an excellent alternative for those who take X-rays on a regular basis or for those who are concerned about radiation.

Shorter Dental Appointments -- Digital radiography will also shorten your dental appointment! With traditional dental X-rays you have to wait while the dental staff develops the film. With digital radiography, the sensor produces the picture instantly and projects it onto a computer screen right before your eyes.

Higher Quality Images -- The small size of traditional X-rays films make viewing tooth structure difficult, but digital radiography has done away with the "one size fits all" mentality. Once on the screen, Digital X-rays can be enlarged or magnified for a better view of your teeth. Brightness, contrast and color can also be adjusted, allowing the dentist to see cavities and fractures easier. If you want a hard copy of your Digital X-rays, they can easily be sent to one of our color printers.  We can also Email your records to your home or office computers, phones, or tablets !

Transferring Dental Records -- Digital images can be Emailed to a dental specialist for immediate review. Digital X-rays take away the expense and time needed to copy files and mail them. This makes it easier to transfer dental records, or get a second opinion. As offices are turning to electronic patient charts such as ours, computers will eliminate the need to mail dental records altogether.

Environmentally Friendly -- Digital dental X-rays are better for the environment! With digital radiography, no environmentally hazardous chemicals are used to develop film and than later disposed of into our dumps. There's also no wasted space of a darkroom and no need to store film which can pile up in a dentist's files
